What is the NHSC scholarship? The NHSC awards scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in primary care. The scholarship includes:
- Payment for tuition
- Required fees and other reasonable educational costs
- A monthly stipend. In return, students commit to serve in the Corps for 2 to 4 years upon completion of their training.
Scholarships will be awarded by September 30, 2010. The NHSC will award about 125 scholarships for 2010. More than 75 of these awards are made possible by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding. Students not selected for an award will be notified by October 30, 2010. We encourage students who do not receive scholarships to apply to join the NHSC after their training and receive loan repayment in exchange for service in an underserved community.
To receive a NHSC scholarship, you must be a:
- U.S. citizen or U.S. national
- Full-time student at an accredited school, pursuing a degree in:
- Medicine (DO or MD)
- Dentistry
- Nurse Practitioner
- Certified Nurse Midwife
- Physician Assistant.
